Don’t bet YOUR LIFE on it… (DBYLOI) is a Safeguarding Programme and Tool, available 24/7, 365 and free to all those gambling today.

DBYLOI was built to Raise Standards of Player Protection and reduce gambling harm. For those who choose to gamble and therefore need protection, it alerts people to risk, advises on gambling safety, gives guidance and support to people who are worried about their gambling, and provides practical tips on how to stop and stay stopped if it becomes necessary to do so. The DBYLOI mentoring programme programme is divided into three key parts.

Getting Started

The Getting Started section offers new players 10 important steps to take to avoid the risk of harm. Some may seem obvious, but many who’ve experienced gambling issues weren’t aware of the controls and limits to put in place to avoid gambling-related harm and have suffered as a result. DBYLOI’s key purpose is prevention and early intervention, offering practical tips for safer play.

Needing Help

In Needing Help, DBYLOI seeks to help people recognise the signs of gambling harm earlier and faster, therefore helping them to make better choices and improve outcomes. The Player’s Alphabet Tool provides a moment for self-reflection, offering 26 categories for users to explore, identify and examine their gambling issues in a non-judgmental safe space.

Who is Ed?

home-placeholder

DBYLOI takes a mentoring approach, delivered through a unique avatar called Ed.

Every aspect of Ed has been carefully considered, created to be human enough to be relatable and appeal to a large, diverse group from a wide cross-section of society with a multitude of gambling behaviours and preferences.

Ed is male. He is young but not too young, well-presented but not overly groomed, good to look at but not overly handsome, and culturally indefinable. His voice is clear, not judgmental or condescending, and he speaks with no discernible accent.

He mentors in a tone, language, and style that is unapologetically unsophisticated and communicates in a way that resonates and connects with others.

We chose an avatar rather than a real person to retain the integrity of the product, content and the work. Celebrities and personalities can be divisive, real people can and do mess-up in life. An avatar like Ed remains trustworthy, untarnished, timeless and untouched by scandal.
